BMW Z4 ABS Sensor Lateral Acceleration Sensor Diagnosis - How to Test and Diagnose

See how to diagnose the lateral acceleration sensor on BMW Z4 models using the OPUS | IVS (Autologic) DrivePRO and an DVOM

In this video and article, testing and diagnosing the lateral acceleration sensor on BMW Z4 models using the OPUS | IVS (Autologic) DrivePRO and an DVOM is shown

Begin by identifying the vehicle you’re working on

Select BMW

Select Determine Vehicle

Confirm vehicle information is correct, and select Continue

Select Quick Test

Select Quick Test again to begin Quick Test

Select Dynamic Stability Control

Select Fault Codes

Select Transverse Acceleration Sensor

The fault is currently present and has occurred nine times

Select Back

Select Back

Select Diagnosis Request

Select Next

Locate Rotational Speed and Lateral Acceleration

Both values should be 0 with the key on and the engine off

To test, unbolt module and shake it. Lateral Acceleration data is fixed. This shows an internal fault in the sensor, as we expect to see a change when the module is agitated

To test sensor supply voltage, begin by disconnecting the sensor electrical connector

Then locate terminal 3

Insert a specialized test lead to terminal 3

You should have battery volts

Next, flip the connector over and locate terminal 5

Insert a specialized test lead to terminal 5

You should have zero volts

The voltage from the module tests correctly indicating a faulty Transverse Acceleration Sensor
