This article and video illustrates the procedure for placing the parking brake in service mode. You will need service mode when repairing or replacing the brakes on Audi A4 8K chassis vehicles.
Identify Vehicle
Using the diagnostic AssistPlus diagnostic software, identify the vehicle. In this video we are working with an Audi A4 8K chassis
Select Chassis
Select Parking Brake
Select control unit functions
Select, Removing and Installing Brake Pads
Review notes, then select NEXT
Confirm parking brake is released
Then, Select Next
Select Start brake pad change, this function opens the rear brake caliper completely. Select the arrow.
Select Arrow
The following screen confirms the brakes will be completely opened
Select Open Brakes
Caliper movement will be heard
A confirmation screen with confirm the brake have been extended successfully. Select Ok to continue.
If the function failed, you will receive a message alerting you. Check for fault codes if this occurs.
Perform repairs or maintenance to brakes. Select END.
When rear brakes are reassembled, the caliper must be removed from service mode
Select Chassis
Select Parking Brake
Select, Control Unit Functions
Select, Removing and Installing Brake Pads
Select End brake pad change. Select the arrow.
this function closes the rear brake caliper completely setting the limit stops.
The following screen confirms the brakes will be closed. Select Close Brakes.
Caliper movement will be heard
A confirmation screen with confirm the brake have been closed successfully. Select OK
If the function failed, you will receive a message alerting you. Check for fault codes if this occurs.
Check brake fluid and top up if necessary.
